Mill Cottage - Self Catering Cottage In the heart of Bibury with fly fishing included
Mill Cottage stands in the heart of the Cotswold village of Bibury. It is attached to Arlington Mill and once served as the miller’s house. The original mill is mentioned in the Domesday Book; the one that stands today was constructed by Quakers in 1792. Mill Cottage predates the existing mill and is believed to have been constructed around 400 years ago.
The cottage has a typically rugged Cotswold stone tile roof, stone mullioned windows and thick stone walls that keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. There are oak beams within and curving elm floorboards. Warmth is provided by a wood-burning stove in the sitting room.
The cottage is a short walk from the Catherine Wheel Pub, which serves excellent real ale and food. Milk, bread and newspapers can be purchased from the Trout Farm shop, around 30 yards away from the cottage, and the Post Office, with its world famous gift shop, is a 2 minute walk away.
Bibury was once described by nineteenth century artist, designer and poet William Morris as the most beautiful village in England and little has changed since his day. Mill Cottage is sited so as to allow guests to explore the village and environs with ease. Rack Isle, once a drying area for wool and now a National Trust nature reserve can be seen from the cottage and the renowned Arlington Row cottages are to be found a short amble along Water Lane. Many diverse walks along the Coln Valley and ancient Salt Way are easily accessed and visitors have no need for a car during their stay.
The Cotswold towns of Cirencester, Burford, Northleach and Stow on the Wold are a short drive away and Mill Cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the Cotswolds. Bibury is also known as the ‘Wedding Capital of the Cotswolds’ and Mill Cottage is a short distance away from all the village’s wedding venues.
